When opened from the Domain Explorer, the options on this tab allow you to define general properties of new or existing tag numbers.

When opened from the Reference Explorer, the options on this tab allow you to define general properties of new or existing typical tag class (denoted by "Typical") numbers.

Loop data

The options in this group box deal with the loop data of the current tag number.

Loop number

Displays the loop number that the current tag number is associated with. If the current tag number is not associated with any loop, this field is not visible. Note that if the loop name is longer than the Loop name box, you can select the box and use the arrow keys to see the hidden part of the name string.

Properties

Opens the Loop Number Properties dialog where you can edit the loop properties.

New Loop

Opens the New Loop Number dialog where you create a new loop number that you can then associate with the current tag number.

Associate

Associates the tag number with a loop number that you find using the Find Loop dialog.

Tag number properties

Tag class

Displays the tag class associated with the current tag number.

After you assign a typical tag with Telecom and Electrical class types they cannot be renamed.

Number

Displays the name of the current tag number you are editing. To rename the tag number, select next to the tag number to open the Rename Tag Number dialog.

  • To change the tag class select the ellipsis button next to the Number box. Then, on the Rename Tag Number dialog, change the tag class as you require.

  • After you assign a typical tag with Telecom and Electrical class types they cannot be renamed.

  • To update document numbers when renaming the tag number, you must first select the Update document numbers check box. Also, make sure your Domain Administrator defined naming conventions for those document numbers you want to update when renaming the current tag.

  • The Update document numbers check box is not available for typical tags.

Service

Allows you to type an appropriate tag number service.

Instrument type

Allows you to select an instrument type. For example, D/P Type Flow Element FE, Mass Flow Transmitter FT, and so forth.

  • Not available for Electrical and Telecom tag classes.

  • Field name changes to Telecom device type when displaying Telecom class properties.

Status

Allows you to select an instrument status from this drop-down list. For example, New Instrument, Existing Device to be relocated, Old Device not to be revamped, and so forth.

Location

Allows you to select the required instrument location from this drop-down list. For example, Equipment Room, DCS Rack and so forth.

I/O type

Allows you to select an instrument I/O type. For example, AO Analog Output, PI Pulse Input, and so forth.

Certification

Allows you to select a certification for the current tag number, for example Intrinsically safe.

Not available for all typical tags.

Signal type

Allows you to select an appropriate signal type. Select if the value you need is not on the list.

Linear type

Allows you to select a linearity type. Select if the value you need is not on the list.

Requires power supply

Select if the current instrument requires power supply. Selecting this check box makes the Power Supply tab available.

Not available for electrical tag numbers.

Old tag number

Allows you to type the old name of a tag number that you have renamed. If you selected Display old tag number automatically on the Preferences dialog (this option appears when you select the Rename icon under Instrument Index), the previous tag number appears automatically.

Internal loop order

Shows you to the sorting sequence of the current tag within the loop. After deleting a tag number, the system automatically updates the order of tags within the loop to prevent a gap in the tag sorting sequence.

This is used by drawings using the By Signal generation methods.

Equipment

Allows you to select a process equipment. For example, B-101, F102, and so forth.

Available for all tag classes except for Typical Tags, Telecom, Hart signal, Analyzer stream, Analyzer component, Test Equipment, and Functional Requirement.

Line

Allows you to select and associate a line with the current tag number. The associated line is defined as the main upstream line.

  • When more than one line is associated with this tag, the name of this field will change to Upstream Line.

  • You cannot change the upstream line to downstream and keep previous associations. If you try to change the upstream line you will receive a message requesting confirmation that you intend to dissociate all associated lines from this tag.

  • Not available for typical tags.

P&ID

Allows you to select the P&ID reference drawing where the current tag number appears. You can set the software to automatically select a default P&ID drawing if the line that you selected is associated with a P&ID drawing and if you selected Automatic selection of P&ID associated with line on the Preferences dialog (this option appears when you select the Tag Number icon under Instrument Index). Note that if the current tag number is associated with a loop that is set to propagate P&ID drawing numbers to tags, changing the P&ID drawing number in the tag properties will not take effect and after closing the Tag Properties dialog, the P&ID drawing number will revert to the P&ID number that was defined for the associated loop number.

Not available for typical tags.

Manufacturer

Allows you to select an instrument manufacturer. For example, Fisher, Rosemount, Honeywell, and so forth.

Model

Allows you to select an instrument model. The available models depend on the manufacturer that you selected. The list also shows the process function associated with the model to help you select a model that is appropriate for the current tag instrument type.

Intrinsically safe circuit type

Allows you to select an intrinsically safe circuit type for the current instrument if you want to calculate intrinsic safety for the current document.

On signal state description

Allows you to enter a specific purpose or description of the state of the signal when it is present.

Off signal state description

Allows you to enter a specific purpose or description of the state of the signal when the signal is not on.

Update document numbers

Select this check box to update the document numbers of the documents associated with the current instrument tag (specification, process data, calculation, and dimensional data sheets). A document number naming convention can contain segments that represent tag number properties. Therefore, if you select this check box, changing a tag number property that is used in the document number segment also changes the document numbers in accordance with this change. For details on document number naming conventions, see Document Number Naming Convention Examples in the Administration module Help.

  • You should exercise caution when selecting this check box. If document number naming conventions includes instrument naming convention segments that the current tag contains, after you select this check box and rename the tag number, the software updates numbers of all documents for the current tag. The software, however, does not update document numbers for which the default naming convention is used. Suppose you want to rename a tag number FT-100 to FT-101 and the source tag has a spec FT-100-SP. After renaming, the default document number of the renamed instrument specification remains as FT-100-SP, even though this number contains the 100 segment, which was renamed for the instrument.

  • This check box is not available for typical tags.

Note

Opens the Tag Number Note dialog where you can type a brief description for the tag number you are editing.
