Use this procedure for adding a new unit of measure.

  • Close all Smart Instrumentation modules before performing this procedure.

  • You cannot add new units of measure for the Temperature or Temperature Gradient types.

  1. Select Units of Measure Codes from the Tools menu.

  2. In the Unit of Measure Codes dialog, select New.

  3. In Unit of measure type, select the type of the unit of measure. If there is no appropriate type, select New to open the Custom Unit of Measure Type dialog and define a new unit of measure type.

    • If you define a new unit of measure type and then select a different type for your new unit of measure, the new unit of measure type that you defined is not saved.

    • Units of measure that use custom unit of measure types are not supported in some SPI modules.

  4. Enter the details for your unit of measure.

For more information, see Unit of Measure Codes Dialog.

    • Flow and Viscosity unit of measure types require that you select a Sub-type value in the Unit of Measure Properties dialog.

    • Legal values for Conversion factor are positive numeric values or numbers written in exponential notation, for example, one million can be entered as 1e6.

    • For user-defined unit of measure types, you can change the Conversion Unit. To set a unit of measure as a conversion unit, and make it available on the Conversion unit selection list, set the Conversion factor to 1. To remove a unit of measure from the Conversion unit selection list, change the Conversion factor for that unit of measure to a value other than 1.

  5. Select OK.
