You use the Expression Builder to construct an expression based on the EDE View currently open in the EDE Actions tab. From the EDE Actions toolbar, select EDE Expression Builder to open the Expression Builder.

Expression Name

Allows you to name your Expression. If left blank the software provides a name using the following format: Expression 1, Expression 2… The name entered becomes the column name of your expression in the EDE.

Expression Panel

Allows you to build an expression based on the pre-defined lists (Attributes, Functions, Operators, and Constants).

SHARED Tip You can double click any of the Attributes, Functions, Operators and Constants, or you can manually type them into the Expression Panel.

Result Preview

Displays the first expression result it finds, based on the first EDE row. This is an indication your syntax is valid and the expression has returned results.

Function Information

Displays the syntax and its description when you double click on a Function, Operator, and Constant.

Attributes

Displays a list of the Attributes included in the EDE View currently open. Double click on an Attribute to insert it to the Expression Panel. The Attributes are unique to each EDE View. To search for an Attribute, enter the Attribute name in the Search attributes field.

Functions

Displays a list of Functions. Double click a function to add to your expression. Selecting once on a function displayed the function information and syntax in the Function Information field. Selecting twice on a function enters it into the Expression Panel. For more details, see Operators, Functions and Constants Panels.

Operators

Displays a list of the mathematical and logical operators. Double-click on an Operator to insert it into your expression.

Constants

Displays the boolean options of the expression, when using a logical function. For example, with an "If" function.

Remove Item

Select this button to delete the Expression. After you select OK, the EDE View regenerates, and opens without the Expression column.
