Smart Instrumentation Version
13.1

You use the options in this section to display or define the style settings for the browser view that you select in the Browser groups window. Smart Instrumentation uses these style settings to display the data associated with the current browser view.

Style settings allow you to:

  • Determine which fields the software displays in the Browser View window.

  • Set the order and width of the selected fields and determining how they appear in the Browser View window.

  • Customize the column layout of a browser view for printing.

Name

Displays the current style name. You can change the name after selecting Edit. If you leave this field empty, the name of the selected style will be displayed as (None).

Select

Allows you to select the fields that you want to be displayed in the Browser View window.

All

Selects all the available fields.

Custom

Selects all the available custom fields.

Non-custom

Selects all the available fields that are not custom fields.

Switch to default sort

Select this option to revert to the default field sorting (sort by Data Field Header) in the Style settings window. This option becomes available after selecting one of the field headers (for example, Data Field Header, Table Column Name, and so forth) in the Style settings window to change the sorting order. Note that this sorting does not affect the Browser View window and it is confined to the Style settings window only.

Selected

The number of fields you have selected to view, that is, the fields for which the View check box has been selected.

Enable document for publishing and Domain Explorer

Allows you to make the current browser view available in the Domain Explorer, Reference Explorer, and all the other explorer windows in Smart Instrumentation. After selecting this check box and saving the style settings, the current browser view becomes available in the Show Browser dialog that you open from an explorer window, as well as available for publishing with data (SmartPlant > Publish).

Style Definition Fields

Contains all the fields available for the selected view. The options in this window allow you to select the fields that you want to be displayed in the Browser View window. The window displays the data field headers as they appear in the Browser View window and as they are called in the database. You can also sort the fields displayed in the Style settings window according to any field in this window. Just select the field header by which you want to set the sorting. This does not affect the Browser View window and it is confined to the Style settings window only. Note that fields highlighted in yellow will not be editable in the Browser View window.

Data Field Header

Contains all the fields that you can select to be displayed in the Browser View window. The names here are as they appear in the Browser View window. You can edit the data field header as required after selecting Edit. To display a field in the Browser View window, select its View check box.

  • For many browsers, it is possible to select custom fields defined by the Domain Administrator in the Administration module. As any other fields, in browser views, custom field definitions appear as column headers. It is not possible to display an apostrophe in a custom field header. If your definition includes an apostrophe character, this character changes in the header to a double quote character ". If your definition includes a double quite character, it changes in the header to a tilde character ~. Other special characters appear in custom field header as defined.

  • Selecting the Unit Name field for the Browser View window, and saving the report file in an Excel format, displays the Unit Specific Name column in the report sheet. This column denotes the unit name in a specific plant and area.

Table Column Name

Displays the table column names as they appear in the database. You cannot change the table column names.

SHARED Tip In a view style of a multi-form browser, for each field header you defined for the browser, the column displays C1, C2, C3, and so forth. These are not field names but field group indicator values in the database. Because several form fields can be assigned to the same header in a multi-form browser, the software cannot display the field names in the Style section of the Browser Manager.

Length

Displays the maximum number of characters of the corresponding field. You can modify the maximum length by typing in the required value (select Edit first.) Note that each field has a preset maximum length limit. If you exceed this limit, the software displays a message letting you know what the maximum length for that field is.

View

Select this check box for every field that you want to select. Only the fields for which the View check box is selected will appear in the view whose style you are editing or creating. You can also use the options in the Select group box or the Selection Options item on the Actions menu to speed up the field selection (available after selecting Edit).

Auto size

Select this check box to automatically size the field height of the print preview and the printout of the current view to accommodate all the values in the selected field. This way, the software displays and wraps all the text without truncating it. Note that if the text does not contain a space, the text will be truncated even if you selected the Auto size check box for that field (available after selecting Edit).
Clear this check box to truncate the data in the print preview and the printout of the current browser view.

Sum

When displaying the print preview or printing out the selected view, selecting this check box will display the total of all the values in the rows contained in each group delimited by the group separator in the print preview. This option is available for numeric fields only.

Avg.

When displaying the print preview or printing out the selected view, selecting this check box will display the average value of all the values in the rows contained in each group delimited by the group separator in the print preview. This option is available for numeric fields only (available after selecting Edit).

Edit

Make all the fields in the Style settings window accessible for editing. After selecting this button, it changes to Save.

Customize

Opens the Column Layout dialog, where you can customize the width and sequence of the selected fields and determine how they will appear in the Browser View window.

Layout

Opens the Print Layout dialog which allows you to customize the layout structure of the printed out view report.

Print

Prints the style setting data as it appears in the Style settings window.
