This dialog enables you to calculate flowmeter parameters for a selected flowmeter type or for the restriction device. After viewing the calculation results, you can change the flowmeter parameters and then recalculate.

Flowmeter type

Select the required flowmeter type or the restriction device from the list.

Sub type

Select the required sub type from the list.

Pipe/Tube

(label varies with your selection of flowmeter type and sub-type)

Material

View the pipe material data for the selected orifice flowmeter, or view the tube material for the selected tube flowmeter. The data is derived from the Process Data module.

Linear expansion coefficient

View the corresponding linear expansion coefficient. Change the unit of measure, if required.

Orifice/Throat

(label varies with your selection of flowmeter type and sub-type)

Material

From the list, select the required orifice material for the selected orifice flowmeter, or select the required throat material for the selected tube flowmeter.

Linear expansion coefficient

View the corresponding linear expansion coefficient. Change the unit of measure, if required.

Discharge coefficient

Type your discharge coefficient. (This option is available if you select Restriction Device from the Flowmeter type list). The Discharge coefficient field is disabled when you select the Calculate check box.

Water in steam, % wt

Type the percentage of water in steam. (This option is available for the Steam fluid state only).

Select calculate field

From this group box, select a calculation option for which you want to calculate flowmeter parameters. Note that the calculation options change depending on the flowmeter type you select from the Flowmeter type list. The options are:

Orifice diameter

Select to calculate the orifice diameter using the values you type in the other two calculation fields. If needed, change the units of measure. (The Orifice diameter option is available if you select an orifice flowmeter from the Flowmeter type list).

Throat diameter

Select to calculate the throat diameter using the values you type in the other two calculation fields. If needed, change the units of measure. (The Throat diameter option is available if you select a tube flowmeter from the Flowmeter type list).

Segment height

Select to calculate the segmental orifice segment height using the values you type in the other two calculation fields. If needed, change the units of measure. (The Segment height option is available if you select Segmental Orifice from the Flowmeter type list).

Full scale flow

Select to calculate the full scale flow using the values you type in the other two calculation fields. If needed, change the units of measure.

Differential range

Select to calculate the differential range using the values you type in the other two calculation fields. If needed, change the units of measure.

Pressure loss

Select to calculate the restriction device pressure loss using the values you type in the other two calculation fields. If needed, change the units of measure. (The Pressure loss option is available if you select Restriction Device from the Flowmeter type list).

Refresh

If you changed the full scale flow value, you can select Refresh to retrieve the value from the Process Data module.

Calculate discharge coefficient

Clear this check box to define your discharge coefficient in the Discharge coefficient field. Leave the check box selected to enable automatic calculation of the discharge coefficient.

Diameter of the bleed/vent hole

Type the bleed/vent hole diameter in the data field and select its unit of measure. (This option is available if you select Restriction Device, or an orifice flowmeter from the Flowmeter type list).

Select standard for pressure loss

If you selected ISO Long Radius Nozzle or ISA 1932 Nozzle in Sub type, you must select the standard for calculating pressure loss.

  • Nozzles that were defined in a previous version of SPI are calculated using ISO 5167 - 1991.

  • The default value for new nozzles is ISO 5167 - 2003.

OK

Accepts your changes and closes this dialog (displayed for batch calculation).

Close

For a standard calculation, closes this dialog. For batch calculation, closes this dialog and discards your changes.

Calculate

Performs the calculation according to the current settings and displays the \ results in the appropriate fields (displayed for standard calculation).
