This dialog allows you to define or modify a conventional (non-plug-and-socket) connection for a wiring instrument type profile.

Reference device panel

Displays the current reference device panel you selected on the Wiring and Control System tab of the Instrument Type Profile dialog.

Conventional connections

These options allow you to define various connection properties for new instrument tags.

Reference cable

Allows you to select an appropriate reference cable. If the cable you need is not on the list, open the Reference Explorer and create a new reference cable (available only when defining a new connection).

Cable set

Allows you to select a cable set belonging to the current reference cable (available only when defining a new connection).

Apply to subsequent cable sets

Applies the same connection settings to all the subsequent cable sets belonging to the current reference cable (available only when defining a new connection).

Terminal strip

Allows you to select a terminal strip belonging to the current panel.

Starting terminal

Allows you to select a starting terminal for the current strip. Note that when the software creates the wiring items according to an instrument type profile, it always connects the created cable to the right side of the panel that it creates. Therefore, you are not allowed to select a left- oriented terminal from the Starting terminal list. You can check the configuration of a terminal by right-clicking it in the Domain Explorer and selecting the Properties command.

Connection type

Allows you to select an appropriate connection type. If the required connection type is not available, use the Connection Types dialog in the Wiring module to create a new connection type.

Propagate tag signal

Propagates the tag signals that originate from the current device panel and go through the selected cable set.

Cable set starting signal level

Allows you to set the starting signal level for the current cable set. You use this option to control the signal level sequence of the cable set wires when the selected reference cable contains multiple cable sets with overall shields that are not connected on the device panel side but are connected on the junction box side. You can enter a starting signal level to eliminate the sequence uniqueness problem when connecting the current cable set on the junction box side. When the software connects these cable sets on the device panel side, the wire group levels are assigned sequentially for each wire. However, on the junction box side, the software attempts to assign the next signal level for the overall shield and this can cause a sequence uniqueness problem. If there are no overall shields that need to be connected on the junction box side, do not enter any value so that the software can assign sequence levels sequentially for each wire. Note that this option becomes available only after selecting the Propagate tag signal check box.
