Set the engineering scope of your project by claiming (copying) the engineering items from the As-Built/Project Center or from other projects to your project. The engineering scope is a combination of selected and associated items.

When you claim items from the Domain Explorer, an EDE view or the Connection window, the selected items are copied to your project. Additionally, the associated items determined by the software automatically, are also copied to the project.

When working in Exclusive Claim mode, items in the As-Built/Project Center can only be claimed to one project. Claiming active items from one project to another is not allowed.

You can copy the selected data directly to the project or to the Project To Do list.

  • Project Activities > Claim - The selected items are copied directly to your project. This option does not display the associated items included in the scope of your claim.

  • Project Activities > Copy to Claim Buffer - The selected items are copied to the Project To Do List buffer. This method displays a snapshot of selected scope data where you can see the selected items, associated items selected by the software, availability of items and so forth. The Project To Do List is per project and common to all who work in the project.

You can copy multiple items simultaneously from the tree view of the Domain Explorer.

Root Items:

Root items are used as a starting point for building the engineering scope. Only root items can be claimed from or merged to the Domain Explorer or an EDE view.

The following is a list of Root Items in Smart Instrumentation:

  • Apparatus group

  • Cable

  • Channel

  • Custom Cross Cable

  • Fieldbus Segment

  • Instrument

  • Loop

  • Line

  • Panel (all types, for example: Telecom, Junction Box, PLC, DCS, Device Panels)

  • Plug-and-Socket group

  • Process Equipment

  • Profibus Segment

  • Rack

  • Slot

  • Terminal

  • Terminal Strip

  • Wire

  • Wiring Equipment

  • Uncoupled Control System Tag

  • When claiming a Shield Wire, claim it either with the Device Panel or with the Device Cable. This ensures that the Shield Wire signal is copied correctly during the Claim and the Merge processes.

  • When a cable with an Overall Shield (OSh) is in the scope regardless of its availability status, the Osh as well as its complete network is part of the scope according to the following cases:

    1. If the cable is claimed, the OSh is scoped as active with its parent cable.

    2. If the OSh wire is claimed, it is scoped as active.

    3. If the cable is scoped as Inactive, the OSh is scoped as Inactive. For example, when claiming a tag and one of the active wires is connected to a cable that contains an OSh as well, the cable and the OSh are scoped as Inactive.
