License keys fit into two main types: Nonhosted and hosted.

  • Nonhosted licenses are owned and used by the same organization.

  • Hosted licenses are owned by one organization and made available to another organization, such as a license that is loaned to a contractor.

You can find explanations of the license key types below.

Nonhosted license types

License type

Description

CX: 24/7 Concurrent

The Extended Concurrent-Use software (CX) license permits a single concurrent-use of the software product for up to a day. You can have as many concurrent-uses of the software product as you have licenses.

CS: 12-Hour Standard Continuous Concurrent

The Standard Continuous Concurrent-Use software (CS) license permits a single concurrent-use of the software product for up to 12 hours in a day on the specified type of workstation and operating system. You can have as many concurrent-uses of the software product as you have licenses.

CU: Concurrent Use

The Concurrent-Use software (CU) license permits a single concurrent-use of the software product. Unlike the NU license, the CU license is not limited to a specific named individual. You can have as many concurrent-uses of the software product as you have licenses.

NU: Named User

The Named User software (NU) license - except when otherwise noted - permits a specific individual employed and authorized by you to use the software product on the designated system. Unlike the CU license, the NU license cannot be used by any individual other than the named user, regardless of whether the named user is actively using the software product at any given time. The number of NU licenses is the number of specific individuals who have access to the software products.

Daily Key: 12-Hour Continuous Concurrent

The Daily Key license permits up to 12 hours of concurrent-use to the software product. You can use Daily Key licenses to extend usage of the software product during peak periods. Daily Key licenses are not activated unless all standard licenses are in use. If a Daily Key license is being used by a process at the end of the 12-hour period, access continues until the process is complete.

Daily Token: 12-Hour Continuous

The Daily Token license permits up to 12 hours of continuous access to the software product after which time you need another Daily Token license.

PR: Process Run

The Process Run software (PR) license lasts for as long as the single process for which it is started. You need an additional PR license for each software application process that is started. A PR license is considered in use when the software process is started.

PR+: Process Run with Support

The Process Run Plus software (PR+) license is like the PR license except it includes around the clock access to Hexagon Support services. The PR+ license lasts for as long as the single process for which it is started. You need an additional PR+ license for each process using the software product that is started. A PR+ license is considered in use when the software process is started.

Site

The Site software (SI) license permits you or a separate legal entity at a single, independently managed, site to use the software product to process information for that single site or entity. Some examples of sites are a manufacturing plant, warehouse distribution site, data center site, or central office. Each site requires an SI license.

SH: Head Count-Based Site

The Head Count-Based Site software (SH) license is only available to an owner/operator and only for a site having no more than the specified number of people. Each SH license permits a single copy to be stored on hard disk and loaded for execution, and a specific number of employees can access the software product locally. SH licenses must be used only for the specific site. Remote use of the software product by anyone other than employees or staff augmentation requires a CH-O/O license.

ST: Tag-Based Site

The Tag-Based Site software (ST) license is only available to an owner/operator and only for a site having no more than the specified number of tags. Each ST license permits a single copy of the software product to be stored on hard disk and loaded for execution, and an unlimited number of employees can access the software product locally or remotely on the network server so long as such usage is specifically for the site. The ST license includes the limited right of staff augmentation to use the software product for performing services solely for you for that site. For ST software, tag refers to a unique logical location of functional equipment including software functions within the plant control/safety systems. An incomplete list of examples includes main equipment (mechanical, electrical, automation, telecom, etc.), piping (including valves, blinds, supports, HVAC ducts and dampers), electrical field equipment, instrument field equipment (including fire and gas detectors), telecom field equipment and cables. Remote use of the software product by anyone other than employees or staff augmentation requires a CH-O/O license.

SC: Companion Count-Based Site

The Companion Count-Based Site software (SC) license permits your employees or approved contractors to access the software product on site, and the SC license is intended to accompany the use of companion products. With the SC license, you can have multiple copies of the software product stored on hard disk and loaded for execution. The number of users cannot exceed the number of companion products licensed for the site. The SC license does not permit remote usage.

BU: Business Unit

The Business Unit software (BU) license is specific to your business operation. The BU license permits a particular one of your geographical business units to access the software product. This includes any activities, sites, facilities, offices, and IT infrastructure within the geographical area. The BU license has no restriction for the number of tags or tokens.

VR: Server

The Server software (VR) license permits a single copy of the software product to be stored on hard disk and loaded for execution on the specified type of network server and operating system. Each VR license permits simultaneous access for a specific number of users.

VR: Enterprise

The Server software for Enterprise license is a variant of the VR license. It permits a single copy of the software product to be stored on hard disk and loaded for execution on the specified type of network server and operating system.

VR: Internal API

The Server software for Internal API license is a variant of the VR license. It permits a single copy of the software product to be stored on hard disk and loaded for execution on the specified type of network server and operating system.

Cloud SaaS Named User

The Cloud SaaS Named User software license is a variant of the NU license for which the number of named users is the number of people who have access to the software product.

Cloud SaaS VR: Server

The Cloud SaaS VR Server software license is a variant of the VR license. Each VR license permits simultaneous access for a designated number of users.

Enterprise

The Enterprise software license or Unlimited License Agreement (ULA) software license is defined in your license agreement.

SaaS Agreement

The SaaS Agreement license is reserved for SaaS software products that do not fit defined license models.

  • You are responsible for ensuring that the number of users or concurrent-uses does not exceed the number of licenses you have.

  • A single concurrent-use is counted when the software is loaded into the memory for execution on a single workstation or a remote application server.
