An origin specifies the absolute location of a point on the pipeline. You can specify as many of these points as needed, and you can place them at any position on the pipeline.

Select Dimension > Place Origin Command.

Select a point on the pipeline or on a component to place a flag to display the Add Origin Dialog.

Specify the Type of origin, and type values for the coordinates. To define the 3D coordinate as the start point, you must place it at the open end of the pipeline, and select Set as Start Point.

Select OK to place the origin on the pipeline at the current marker position.

You can also use the Query 3D Coordinate
command to access the Add Origin function.

Select Query 3D Coordinate
on the Dimension toolbar.

Select a point on the pipeline or on a component to place a flag and view the 3D coordinate at this position.

Select Add Origin at the bottom of the Properties window to open the Add Origin dialog, and then define the options as needed.

To remove an origin from the pipeline, right-click it, and then select Delete.

When you place a second or subsequent origin, the software is able to limit part or all of the new coordinate based on existing geometry and dimensions. You can view these limits in the Add Origin dialog. In the example below, the North/South and Up/Down coordinates are fixed, so you cannot specify them. The software has calculated the maximum allowable value for the East/West coordinate, which is based on the known lengths of any components in the model.
