Design elements are model items used to insert detail sketches, add notes, remarks, and other information to your drawing. Design elements include everything from geometric shapes to extension and dimension lines. Placing design elements works like placing any other component in the pipeline model.
Additional materials
You can place any component from the active specification into the model as an additional material and then display the component in the material list when the drawing is generated. You can also associate an additional material with a component or a section of pipe, or you can append the additional material to the overall material list.
Information items
Information items enable you to provide specific details about various parts of the model. Information items that you place in the model are represented by a small square flag. By default, the flag displays an abbreviation (short description) of the type of information item it represents. In the example, two messages (M) and a detail-sketch-identifier (DSI) have been placed in the model.
Dimensioned special symbols
You place and position special symbols the same way you place other components and objects. For some special symbols, the software requires that you specify a dimension to locate them within the pipeline model. The following table lists the items that the software identifies as special symbols. The table also includes information about item-specific attributes that you can define in the Properties window.

Reference dimensions, flow arrows, insulation symbols, and floor and wall symbols have unique notations in the model.

Floor and insulation symbols do not require an item code.

Reference dimensions are handled differently than the other special symbols; they require you to specify a dimension, as well as define additional information in order to place them. A reference dimension can also act as an origin. See Add a reference dimension.
