Before modifying or moving an object you must first select it. You can select objects using the Detail window or the Pipeline Explorer. Most actions apply to the currently selected object.
Selecting a single object
To select an individual object, first select Edit > Select Command or choose Select on the Edit toolbar.
When you select an individual object, the following things occur:
-
The element changes to the selection color. You can change the selection color using the Tools > Options Command.
-
The element's important properties are displayed in the Properties window.
-
When you select multiple elements or grouped elements, they change to the selection color.
Incremental selections
You can use Edit > Select Minus Command and the Edit > Select Plus Command toolbar for the incremental (stepped) selection of objects. Depending on which command you select, the software incrementally advances or reverses the selection of objects along the pipeline.
Selecting multiple objects
A powerful function is the ability to select and operate on more than one object. Many manipulation commands, like delete, move, copy, and rotate, act upon all elements in the selection set. For example, you can select a set of flanges and change the item code assigned to all of them in one operation, or you can set the insulation on several lengths of pipe and inline fittings and components.
The selection commands listed below let you select multiple objects based on the properties they share.
Also, you can manually select more than one object at a time by choosing Select on the Edit toolbar and then pressing CTRL as you select each object. Or, you can use Select and drag the mouse to create a selection window around the objects.
When you release the mouse, all the items in the selection window are selected.
Regional select commands
In addition to being able to select multiple sketch objects based on shared properties, you can use the regional select commands to select multiple sketch objects that occupy the same region, such as a straight, pipeline, or sheet.
De-selecting objects
To remove an object or group of objects, click any point on the Detail window where no there is no pipe geometry. You can also press CTRL, and then select an object to remove it from the select set.
