You can create spool sheets and isometric drawings from any of the piping data files that you import into the current project. You can generate isometric drawings one at a time, or you can use the batch functionality delivered with the software to generate multiple isometric drawings simultaneously. During the drawing generation process, Isogen automatically lays out the drawing, computes and displays all dimensions, annotations and material take-off. However, the exact format of the drawing is determined by the project to which you are currently connected and the isometric style and other options that you select in the Generate Drawings dialog box.

After the drawing generation process finishes, you can view and print the drawing using the software associated with the output drawing file type or by using the drawing viewer software (SmartSketch Viewer) delivered on the Spoolgen product media.

While the process of creating a drawing is usually trouble-free, occasional problems, such as disconnected or inconsistent pipelines, can occur. In these instances, depending on the severity of the problem, the software does one of the following:

  • Generates the drawing and alerts you of the inconsistency or incidence of disconnected pipe so that you can take proper corrective action.

  • Does not complete the drawing generation process altogether until the problem is corrected.

  • By default, Spoolgen outputs isometric drawings in DWG (AutoCAD) format. However, you can generate other drawing output formats such as DGN (MicroStation), DXF (AutoCAD), SHA (Shape2D), and IGR (SmartSketch). The drawing output format for the isometric drawings you generate is determined by the project settings you define using ISOGEN Configuration in I-Configure.

  • For information about how to install SmartSketch Viewer, see the Spoolgen Installation Help.

Disconnected publish

You can configure Isogen to create integration data files during drawing generation in a non-integrated environment. You can then transfer this data for later publishing by Intergraph Smart® Interop Publisher. This enables you to create a publishing data set without being connected to a SmartPlant Foundation server.

In addition to the usual 2D CAD output, Isogen creates the files listed below:

File Type

File Name

PUBLISH-POD

<POD Filename>.xml

PUBLISH-TOOLDATA

ToolData_<POD Filename>.xml

PUBLISH-METADATA

MetaData_<POD Filename>.xml

PUBLISH-TOMBSTONES

<POD Filename>_Tombstones.xml

PUBLISH-MOVEDOBJECTS

<POD Filename>_MovedObjects.xml

When drawing generation completes, Spoolgen displays these files in the Deliverables Generated dialog along with the drawing and report deliverables.

  • The Tombstones and MovedObjects XML files identify any components that have been deleted or relocated between successive publish operations.

  • The software records the integration data file creation under POD Info in the Message file.

  • If the SPF Schema Component is not installed, Isogen does not create the integration data files. A warning message is written in the log and message files similar to the example.

    ***** POD Warning(s) *****

Publish : "The SPF Schema Component is not installed"
