  1. Select Start > All Programs > Intergraph Spoolgen > Symbol Editor to open the symbol editor software.

  2. Select File > Select Project to display the Select Project Dialog.

  3. In the Isometric Directory list, select the isometric directory that contains the project to connect.

  4. Select the required project in the Project List, and then select OK.

  5. Right-click a component in the Library Explorer, and select New Symbol from the context menu to display the New Symbol dialog. You can also select a component type in the Library Explorer, and then select Symbol > New Symbol.

  6. Speify the required options for the new symbol.

    • Use the Original SKEY list to specify the standard symbol on which the new symbol is to be based.

    • Select Copy original symbol graphics to make the standard symbol shape available for editing.

    • If the symbol to be redefined is a valve or instrument, use the Spindle SKEY list to specify the required spindle. For example, select the 01SP spindle.

  7. Select OK.

  8. Modify the symbol as needed.

    • Use the commands on the Symbol menu to modify the symbol shape or add tapping points.

    • Select in the Edit window, and use the commands on the toolbar and the Symbol menu to draw additional lines for the symbol. Select Undo to correct any mistakes. Right-click to stop drawing lines.

  9. After you have redefined the symbol, select File > Export ISOGEN Symbols to display the Save As dialog.

  10. Type a name for the ASCII symbols file, and then select Save.

We recommend that you save the ASCII symbols file within the Spoolgen project folder.

After the file is created, it must be referenced in the Spoolgen project style before it can be output on the isometric drawing. See Configure the software to use an ASCII symbols file.

  11. Select File > Exit to close the editor.

  • For more detailed information about using the tools and techniques in this workflow, see the Intergraph Symbol Editor Help.

  • To display redefined symbols in the pipeline model for editing, you must reference the ASCII symbols file in the SGImport style. See Configure the software to use an ASCII symbols file.
