A section can be locked or unlocked based on your distance from its associated asset.

The location of the asset is configured in the j5 Asset Register. It can't be configured in the task spreadsheet.

A Determining Location pop-up window appears when you open a section and the location of the asset has been configured.

When you are close enough to the asset (you're within the proximity range - this defaults to a maximum distance of 10m from the asset):

  • The Determining Location pop-up window disappears after your device has a good fix on your GPS location.

  • The section tasks can be edited (the tasks are unlocked).

When you are too far from the asset (you're outside the proximity range), and you have a good fix on your GPS location, the pop-up window changes from Determining Location to Automatic section unlock failed:

  • Select MORE INFO. An Automatic section unlock failed dialog appears. The message reads: You are too far from the asset.

  • Select the dialog message to see your Current distance from the asset and the Target distance from the asset (the maximum allowed distance from asset).

  • Select DISMISS if you want to exit the section. You can unlock the section when you're closer to the asset later.

  • Select TRY AGAIN when you have moved closer to the asset. The Determining Location pop-up window appears again.

  • Select OVERRIDE when you're close enough to the asset, but there's a mistakes in the configuration that makes it impossible to be close enough to the asset. The section is flagged when the location lock is overridden.

If you can't get close enough to the asset:

  • The elevation set on your asset might be inaccurate. Make sure the correct geoid model is configured (Use EGM96 Altitude) in the server settings and the asset has the correct elevation set in the j5 Asset Register.

  • Increase the GPS Proximity (m) for the asset in the j5 Asset Register to increase the allowed range from the asset.

When your device doesn't have a good enough fix on your GPS location, the pop-up window changes from Determining Location to Automatic section unlock failed:

  • Select MORE INFO. An Automatic section unlock failed dialog appears. The message reads: Your device doesn't have a good enough GPS location.

  • Select the dialog message to see your Current GPS accuracy and the Target GPS accuracy.

  • Select DISMISS if you want to exit the section. You can attempt a better GPS location later.

  • Select TRY AGAIN to try to get a better GPS location.

  • Select OVERRIDE when you're unable to get a better GPS location. The section is flagged when the location lock is overridden.

If the GPS on your device isn't accurate enough for your environment, increase the Required Accuracy for Geofencing (m) in the server settings.
