The following procedures create a collar that the software can place when a plate, a slot, and penetrating profile are detailed.

Copy and Rename an Existing Collar Symbol

  1. Open the file using the Symbol2D environment.

  2. Delete any existing geometry from the file.

  3. Click Tools > Add-Ins, and display the Collar ribbon bar.

Create the Profile Geometry

  1. Copy and paste the required cross section from the cross section symbol. Do not sketch the profile geometry because it must match the cross section exactly.

  2. Copy and paste the slot geometry for which the clip will be used.

  3. Delete any unnecessary geometry. If possible, limit the geometry to segments required to constrain the collar. This allows the collar symbol to be used for multiple slots and cross sections.

  4. Lock the input geometry segments.

Create the Base Plate Geometry

  1. Sketch an input spline to represent the base plate of the profile.

  2. Click Lock, and select the spline to lock the element.

  3. Sketch the base plate on the Inputs layer.

Name the Input Geometry

  1. Right-click each profile segment, and open the Properties dialog box.

  2. Click the User tab, and check the segment name. If you copied a cross section and slot and pasted it into the collar symbol, the names should already exist.

Create Input Groups

  1. Create an input group for the base plate spline.

  2. Make sure that the profile geometry is grouped.

  3. Make sure the slot geometry is grouped.

Name the Input Groups

  • Click Name Inputs. Click Name, and select the input name in the Value field. Click Apply.

Create the Collar Geometry

  1. Sketch the collar geometry on the Default layer.

  2. If the collar is watertight and should be constrained to the base plate, use a spline and put it on the BasePlane layer.

Group the Collar Geometry

  1. Hold the CTRL key, and select the segments in a clockwise sequence.

  2. Click Group.

  3. Use the Name Geometry dialog box to name the edges of the collar. Follow the naming conventions. For more information, see Collars.

Constrain and Dimension the Geometry.

  • Place the dimensions on the CrossSectionPlane, Default, or NoShortPtAdj layer, depending on your requirements. For more information, see Collars.

Add Parameter Names to the Dimensions

  1. Click Symbol Properties, and click the Parameters tab.

  2. The parameter names must match the names in the bulkload file.

Define the Representation

  • Click Symbol Representation, and assign the collar geometry group the clip representation.

Save the Symbol File

  1. Save the symbol with a .SYM extension.

  2. Before you close the file, check the symbol's timestamp to verify that it was saved. If it was not, click Save As, and overwrite the file.

  3. Save the file to the symbol share under the [Reference Data Folder]\CatalogCata\Symbols\Collars folder.

Modify the Visual Basic Rules

  • Add new Smart Items to the proper selector, then save and recompile the project.

Modify the Bulkload Spreadsheet

  • Modify the [Product Folder]\StructDetail\Data\BulkloadFiles\SRDConstDetailsClips.xls file to add the new symbol.

Bulkload the Symbol

  • Bulkload in Append or Add mode.

Place the New Collar in the Model

  1. Place a deck.

  2. Place a transverse bulkhead that intersects the deck.

  3. Place a deck profile that intersects the bulkhead using the cross section in the collar symbol.

  4. Split the bulkhead with the profile.

  5. Detail the deck, bulkhead, and profile to get the slot and associated collar.
