By following these tasks in order, you can create your own collar or clip symbol quickly and easily.

Open and Set Up the Symbol File

The software delivers several templates that you can use to create your custom symbols. For more information, see Open and Set Up the Symbol File.

It is usually easier to start with an existing symbol that is close to the shape needed.

Manage Layers and Display Settings

Create the required layers, and any optional layers, for the symbol. For more information, see Manage Layers.

After you have created the layers, adjust the display settings to meet your needs. For more information, see Set Display Settings.

Insert Profile and Slot Geometry

The first step in creating your symbol is to copy profile cross-section, baseplane, and slot geometry from an existing slot symbol into your collar symbol. For more information, see Insert Profile and Slot Geometry.

Sketch and Constrain Offset Curve

The offset curve allows the base of a collar connected to the base plane to adjust to the shape of the supporting structure in the model. For more information, see Sketch and Constrain Offset Curve.

Sketch and Constrain Collar Geometry

Create the collar geometry. For more information, see Sketch and Constrain Collar Geometry.

Move Collar Offset Curve to the BasePlane Layer

The offset curve must be on the BasePlane layer to be processed properly by the software. For more information, see Move Collar Offset Curve to the BasePlane Layer.

Move Collar Geometry and Dimensions to CrossSectionPlane Layer

Some collar geometry must be on the CrossSectionPlane layer to be processed properly by the software. For more information, see Move Collar Geometry and Dimensions to CrossSectionPlane layer.

Create Collar Groups

For the software to know how to handle graphics in the symbol file, you create unique groups that define the different geometry contours of the collar. For more information, see Create Collar Group.

Define Symbol Representation

Assign the group to a symbol representation. For more information, see Create Collar Symbol Representation.

Name Collar Edges

In order for the software to assign the geometry in your symbol to the correct parts of the collar, you must name each geometric element in the symbol. For more information, see Name Collar Edges.

Define Collar Inputs

A profile cross section and base plane curve are defined as inputs so that the software can associate the collar symbol to ship structure. For more information, see Define Collar Inputs.

Test Symbol Geometry

To verify that the geometry is properly constrained and behaves correctly, you need to test the symbol. For more information, see Testing Symbol Geometry.

Define Collar Symbol Properties

One of the most important steps of symbol creation is to map the dimensions in your symbol to the corresponding symbol parameter in your catalog workbook. For more information, see .

Adding Symbol Data to the Catalog

Add the part class of the symbol to the appropriate workbook from which it can be loaded into the Catalog database. For more information, see Load Symbol Definition Data into an Excel Bulkload File.
