The utility provided with the operating system can be used to make a backup of the files that comprise the database. On Windows, third party backup utilities are available which can also be used for this purpose.
Making an operating system-level backup of the database files is highly recommended. It is useful should you experience a disk failure.
If you ever need to use it to recover the database, everyone's work will return to the point in time when the backup was made. Also, when the database is restarted it may not be synchronized with the data in the models.
See NTBACKUP or CPIO Backup of Project Data. The database must be shut down when its files are copied to tape.
