Smart Materials/Smart Reference Data Version
2020 (10.0)

Item types are assigned to commodity codes and are used in BOM, Requisition, MSCM, and Site modules of Smart Materials. To create an item type, you must assign one of the following item rules:

Item Rule

Description

Comment

REF

Reference items

These items can be used as a placeholder on the BOM; they are never included in an MTO.

ROT

Requisition without tag

An item type with this rule is needed for manually creating a commodity code in the Maintain Requisitions and Maintain Agreements pages.

SHP

Shape

Item types with this rule are used for OMI shape import.

SOT

Standard without tag

A tag number is not attached to the ident.

SWT

Standard with tag

The ident must be combined with a tag number.

TAB

Template (property based tag)

Properties do not have particular values assigned. These values are assigned later when the BOM is created.

TFM

Tagged fabricated items with milestones

In BOM and in MTO, there is no special logic associated with tagged fabricated items (spool pieces).

TOM

Tagged without milestone

The tag number determines the ident. You cannot define milestones for TOM items.

TWM

Tagged with milestone

The tag number is the only property for building an ident. Milestones must be defined for TWM items.

Only one item type of each item rule can be defined as the default.

  1. From the Home page, select Administration > Global Setup > Materials Setup > Item Types.

  2. Click Add Row.

  3. Select an item rule from the Item Rule list.

  4. Type an item type name in Item Type cell.

  5. Enter Short Description and Description.

  6. Select Yes in Default for the item type to be used as the default for the selected item rule.

  7. Select Yes in MTO for the item type to be taken into account by the MTO.

  8. Select Yes in Forecast for the forecast run to consider idents of this item type.

  9. Select Yes in Fabrication Tracking to specify which item rules must be used for fabrication tracking.
