  1. Sketch the collar on the Default layer.

  2. If construction lines are needed to help constrain the collar, sketch them on the Constructions layer.

  3. Constrain the collar to the profile, the slot, and the base plane. Do not over-constrain. For example, use parallel constraints instead of horizontal/vertical constraints.

  4. Dimension the collar on the Dimensions layer with respect to the profile, the slot, and the base plane.

    • Leave a gap where the collar attaches to the profile and/or base plate. Dimension the gap. The gap accounts for fit up clearance.

    • If the collar is attached to the base plane, no dimension is needed between the bottom of the collar and the base plane curve. This space is handled by the collar's offset curve. For more information, see Sketch and Constrain Offset Curve.

  5. Variables are created for each of the dimensions. If refinement of the variables is required, click Tools > Variables. Rename, change default values, and add formulas as needed.
