Smart Materials/Smart Reference Data Version
2020 (10.0)

Version 2016 R4 (8.4.0)

  • The DBA setting SERVLET_PATH was removed because it isn't needed anymore due to the use of webutil for file upload (see DBA Settings, Req Planning Export/Milestone Import, Import Expediting Data, Import Package Data, Price List Export/Import, Customer Menu Export/Import, Glossary Export/Import) (CR-MA58082).

  • Starting with version 2016 R4 (8.4.0), the Excel import and export functionality in Smart Materials has changed as follows (CR-MA58055):

    • Reading and writing Excel data from Smart Materials does not require the installation of Microsoft Excel on the application server.

    • All files must now be in the standard Excel format xlsx, the older xls format is no longer supported.

    • Files are now transferred directly between client and database, therefore a download directory on the application server is no longer needed for these files. All files that are uploaded to the database will be stored in the M_EXCEL_INTERFACE_FILES table.

    • The transfer.database.enabled setting must be set to TRUE in the webutil.cfg file, which is located on the application server.

    • The download of generated files to the client PC requires the setting of either of the following DBA settings:

WEBUTIL_DIR_AS - when not using a terminal server software for Smart Materials.

WEBUTIL_DIR_TS - when using a terminal server software for Smart Materials.

A writable directory on the client PC must be specified. This directory must exist on all clients using any of the Excel export functionalities. If no value is defined for these settings, the default directory of C:\tmp applies.

    • The previously used Excel template files are replaced by templates that are configurable using the new A.10.61 Excel Templates screen in Smart Materials. Standard templates for each type are delivered with the software. If you have specified Excel template files by means of corresponding project defaults or DBA settings, the 8.4 migration procedure will replace these settings with the new standard templates.
