The following steps provide a workflow for synchronizing tool data with other tools. In these steps, Tool A represents the tool that failed and is restoring from a backup.

  1. Restore the last known good backup for Tool A.

  2. Retrieve the latest documents into Tool A from all of its retrieval sources and react to any changes.

    • When tool data is restored from a backup, several inconsistent object states can occur, as described in Possible Inconsistencies After Restoring Data.

    • Make manual changes in the Tool A data to be as consistent as possible with the latest SmartPlant Foundation or SmartPlant Basic Integrator data.

    • Use the Compare to Tool command in SmartPlant Foundation or SmartPlant Basic Integrator to compare the current data for Tool A with the last version published to SmartPlant Foundation or SmartPlant Basic Integrator.

    • Publish all documents from Tool A.

  3. Retrieve the Tool A documents into the other tools.

    • Make sure that all tools that retrieve from Tool A have retrieved the latest documents published by Tool A, reacted to any changes, and published all affected documents.

    • Resurrected Objects – When a resurrected object occurs in Tool A, downstream tools will be notified when they perform their next retrieve. The tool will respond by checking current To Do List tasks to see if a corresponding delete task exists for this object. If one exists, then the delete task will automatically be removed. If the resurrected object does not exist in the retrieving application, then a create task will be generated. The engineer will decide if this object is needed and if not will coordinate with Tool A to get it removed.

    • Deleted Objects – When a deleted object occurs in Tool A, downstream tools will be notified when they perform their next retrieve. The tool will respond by adding a delete task to the To Do List. The engineer will decide if this object should be deleted and if not will coordinate with the owner of Tool A to get it added. Please note that the downstream tool will be required to correlate to the new item after it is published by Tool A and retrieved.

    • Modified Objects – When a modified object occurs in Tool A, downstream tools will be notified when they perform their next retrieve. The tool will respond by adding an update task to the To Do List. The engineer will decide if this change should occur and if not will coordinate with the owner of Tool A to get it resolved.

    • Once all of these inconsistencies have been resolved, the integrated tools are considered synchronized.
