There are two common situations that require you to restore backed up data:

  • You are moving an application from one server to another.

  • You are restoring an application to its current location because of a system failure.

The steps required to reconfigure SmartPlant Foundation or SmartPlant Basic Integrator after a restore operation differ slightly depending upon the situation. Differences are noted where appropriate in the topics within Backing Up and Restoring SmartPlant Foundation.

If you are restoring the SmartPlant Foundation or SmartPlant Basic Integrator server, the preferred method of recovering data is to restore a simultaneous backup from all tools, including SmartPlant Foundation or SmartPlant Basic Integrator, at a known state. If such an enterprise-wide restoration is not practical, or if too much work has occurred since these backups, the latest SmartPlant Foundation or SmartPlant Basic Integrator backup should be restored. In this case, the process of publishing and retrieving documents from all tools and reacting to changes in the design basis will repopulate the SmartPlant Foundation or SmartPlant Basic Integrator database and resynchronize the integrated environment.

If you are restoring an individual authoring tool server, the preferred method of recovering data is to restore a simultaneous backup from all tools, including SmartPlant Foundation or SmartPlant Basic Integrator, at a known state. If such an enterprise-wide restoration is not practical, or if too much work has occurred since these backups, the latest tool database backup should be restored and synchronized with all related tools by publishing and retrieving, and then reacting to changes in the design basis. See Resynchronizing SmartPlant Enterprise for details.
