  1. Select a component type in the Material Builder tree view.

  2. In the Sizes grid, click in a dimension cell and type a length.

    • If you are in Engineering mode, the Dimension column headings display as DimA, DimB, and so on. If you are in Stick mode, the column headings display as Leg_1, Leg_2, and so on.

    • The software recognizes the following unit names:

      • mm

      • in

      • inch

      • inches

      • m

      • metre

      • meter

      • meters

      • metres

      • cm

      • centimeter

      • centimetre

      • centimeters

      • centimetres

      • foot

      • ft

      • feet

    • If you do not specify a unit of measure for a dimension, the software uses the current length units.

  3. If needed, define component attributes.

  4. Click Add to update the database with the new material.

  • The component attribute columns in the Sizes grid are identical to the material attribute columns in the Attribute/Value grid in the main data area.

    • You can enter Weight in either kilograms (kg) or pounds (lb). However, the software always displays the weight in the current weight units as defined by the database properties.

    • You can specify Bolt Length and Bolt Diameter values in a variety of units; however, the software displays them in the current bolt length and bolt diameter units.

    • Some attributes have a pre-defined set of values from which you select using a dialog box. You can access the dialog box and select a value by clicking Browse .

  • If you leave the component attributes columns empty, any values that you defined previously in the Attributes/Values grid are automatically applied to all the sizes that you specify in the sizes grid when you click Add.

  • The software uses the same color code in the sizes grid as it does in the Attribute/Values grid to distinguish between standard and user-defined attributes - medium blue for standard attributes and light blue for user-defined attributes.

  • You can use the Associated Materials column to associate a material with a specific component type. For more information, see Add an associated material to a component.
