Depending on your situation, you can choose from the following workflows to create the descriptive and dimensional data that Smart Isometrics requires.

Workflow 1 - Create New Data

The standard workflow for using Smart Isometrics Material Editor is to create a new catalog and then use the data in the catalog to create new specifications. However, prior to creating catalogs and specifications, you must use the Material Builder to create the material data, such as flanges, pipes, bolts, supports, welds, tees, crosses, and so on, that make up the catalog. After you create the catalog, you can then use the Specification Builder to create one or more specifications.

Workflow 2 - Piecemeal Approach

Instead of creating specifications with the Specification Builder, you use the Filter Builder and Modifier Builder on the catalog in real-time to copy and paste materials from the catalog to the specification.

Workflow 3 - Import from I-Sketch Format

When you have existing catalogs and specifications in I-Sketch format, you can use the Import I-Sketch Specification or Catalog command to import the data directly into Material Editor, and then save the imported data. After you import the data, you can use the tools in Material Editor to create and edit your material data. For more information, see Import an I-Sketch specification.

Workflow 4 - Convert Existing Materials Data Using Intergraph I-Convert

If you have existing materials in other formats, such as PDS, PDMS, AutoPlant, or CADWorx, you can use I-Convert to convert the data into a format that Material Editor can use. You can then use the software to create and edit your databases.

For more information about converting other material data formats, see the I-Convert Help.
