Various parts of SPO Operating Plant use the logging block from Microsoft’s Enterprise Library. While the needed dlls and configuration are included you may want to leverage this library to better suit your environment. To read up and install the Enterprise library go to this site: Microsoft Enterprise Library.

All SPO Solutions use a very specific naming convention for log entries. The important part of this configuration is to ensure the categories "Warning," "Verbose," "Trace," and "Exception" are handled. Any of these can be filtered using the filtering provided by M.S. P&P. The priority given to each class of log entry are as follows:

Priority

Log Entry

10

Verbose (very-long iterative processes with lots of output. Always prefixed with "v|")

9

Trace – Standard logging output.

5

Warning (exceptions which shouldn’t break execution. Always prefixed with [WARNING])

1

Exception (exception messages which break execution. Always prefixed with [EXCEPTION])

Typically, filters should be set up to produce messages for 1-9, while 10 should be hidden unless debugging a problem and more information is needed. In some scenarios, the trace log will tell you if verbose logging would help with your problem.
