You can move and rotate any display set in the Main view. You can select a display set, and then drag it to a new location.

Visual Aids

As you drag a display set, Smart Review provides the following visual cues to guide display set motion.

  • The status bar shows the corresponding position coordinates. These coordinates represent the display set motion reference origin point.

  • As you drag the display set, a transparent volume box is drawn from the start point to the current drag point. The three colors on the box coincide with the colors on the view axis and on the Lock command buttons on the Animation toolbar. The north coordinate face on the box is green; the east coordinate face is red, and the elevation coordinate face is blue. This color scheme helps you see the position and direction of the display set as you are moving it. The transparent box is shown when the Reference Geometry aspect is enabled. Turning off the Reference Geometry aspect will turn off the display of the box when you drag a display set.

    1. Click View > Settings > View.

    2. Click the Aspects tab.

    3. Select Reference Geometry and highlight it to turn it on, or de-select it to turn it off. This aspect is turned on by default.

The transparent volume box colors display in conjunction with the Lock commands, provided in the Animation toolbar as well as in the Animation > Display Sets menu,

    • When there is a single coordinate lock, then the volume box collapses to a planar box from the start drag point to the current drag point. This planar box displays in the color of the coordinate that is locked.

    • When there are two coordinates locked, a single line is shown in the wireframe view.

  1. Click Edit > Select Filter > Display Sets.

  2. From the Project Manager or the Main view, select the display set to move.

Smart Review highlights the display set to show it is selected.

  3. To make sure display set motion is enabled, click Motion > [Display Set Name].

  4. With the display set selected, drag it to the new location. This new position is saved to the database.

The software automatically selects the display set in the Project Manager. As you hold down the left mouse button to drag, Smart Review changes the mouse cursor and automatically surrounds the display set with a range box to show that you are in drag-and-drop mode. The display set moves or follows the cursor as you drag it to its new position.

The example below shows a piece of equipment being moved. The dot inside the range box shows the equipment display set motion reference origin point. When you select a display set, the display set shifts so that the reference origin point is closest to your mouse cursor. The display set and range box can move up or down, depending on the location of the point in the display set.

  • Press ESC or right-click during the drag operation to reset the display set back to the start position.

  • Use the Edit > Select Filter > Select Settings command to change the color of the range box and the motion reference origin point. You can define how the display set range box displays by changing the Highlight settings such as the line width, line pattern, and color). Use the Select option to change the color of the motion reference origin point. For more information on Select and Highlight options, see Configure Highlight and Color Options.

  • When you have objects that are in multiple display sets, the display set with the lowest user ID gets selected. Use the Display Sets > Edit Position command to change the user ID to a higher name to select a specific object.

  • You may need to change the motion reference origin point in a display set to show the display set in a different position as it travels along a path in an animation. Click Display Sets > Edit Position. On the Move tab, either type in the new reference point or select a point in the provided glyph. For more information, see Move Tab (Edit Display Set Position Dialog Box).

  • To prevent the display set from being moved up or down along your path, use the Animation > Display Sets > Lock Elevation command. This locks the selected display set at the current elevation.
