The ScatteredText rule is similar to the Pattern rule, except the tag number is constructed from multiple lines (like the tags normally displayed on a SmartPlant Piping and Instrumentation diagram). For example, the LCV-156 instrument tag is drawn inside a circle with LCV as the first line of text and 156 as the second line of text. To extract the instrument tag, a text area and multiple patterns need to be defined. In this example, two patterns need to be defined: [A-Z][A-Z[A-Z] to capture LCV and ### to capture 157. In addition, a text area below LCV needs to be set so only 157 can be associated to LCV and a separator (such as –) should be defined so the LCV-157 instrument tag can be extracted from the drawing file.

To configure the ScatteredText rule, you must complete the following steps:

  1. In the Configuring Rule for Template window, select the property to be used to store the extracted value from the Related Attribute list.

  2. Select Configure using Regular Expression check box to consider the pattern as a regular expression.

  3. Click Add Pattern to add a Pattern box and then type a pattern in the Pattern box. Alternatively, click Configure Pattern to create a pattern. The data matching this pattern is extracted from the drawing file.

  4. Type integer values in the Attribute table. Type the values for Offset Left, Offset Right, Offset Top and Offset Bottom in their respective columns to indicate the x- and y- axis values of the offset area.

  5. Type the row count in the Minimum Number of Rows of Text box and Maximum Number of Rows of Text box to identify the scattered text within the area.

  6. Type a character in the Separator box. This character can be used as a separator within characters or words.

  7. Select an option from the Prefix list to add as a prefix to the extracted text.

    You can select a configured rule (such as StaticText, RelatedText, and ExtractDataFromText) to include the extracted text from the selected rule as the prefix. You can also include custom text as the prefix by selecting the Custom option and adding the required text in the text box.

  8. Select the check boxes to do the following:

    • Tolerance Inside - Select this option if you want to specify permissible deviations for the area definition.

    • Mandatory Field - Select this option if this is a mandatory value.

    • Output Multiple Instances - Select this option to extract all the instances of the text in the output.

    • Output Data - Select this option to display data in the output.

  9. Click OK.
