Select the rule you want to modify, and select Edit > Properties to display the Rule Properties Dialog.
-
Select the Items Tab.
-
In the Placement method list for Item 1, choose a placement type.
-
Select Properties next to the Placement method list in order to further specify options for the placement type you have chosen.
If you select a placement method that does not have further options to specify, the Properties button is not available.
-
If you have specified an Item 2 for this rule, choose a placement type for Item 2 and then specify the placement method properties.
-
Occasionally, you might want to specify a placement method for both items. For example, if you have a rule that applies to valves and pipes and want to place valves on pipes and also connect pipes to valves, you should specify a placement method for each item. You are not required to select a placement method for both items.
-
You select a placement method for an item only if you can place that item on another item. In the nozzle example, you do not select a placement method for the vessel because you do not want to place a vessel on an existing nozzle.
-
You do not need to select any placement method at all. If a rule does not have a placement method associated with it, the rule does not participate in placement. You can use this type of rule for consistency checking or implied items.
