Make sure you install the following server roles (minimum) below Web Server (IIS):

You can install the roles using the Add Roles and Features Wizard in Server Manager.

    • Health and Diagnostics

      • HTTP Logging

      • Static Content Compression

    • Security

      • Request Filtering

      • Windows Authentication

      • .NET Extensibility 4.x

      • ASP.NET 4.x

      • ISAPI Extensions

      • ISAPI Filters

  • Management Tools

    • IIS Management Console

You must install the Windows Authentication server role to successfully configure the Integrated Windows Authentication identity provider delivered with Smart API Manager. You can install the role using the Add Roles and Features Wizard in Server Manager.

What happens if Windows Authentication is not installed?

If the role is not installed, you will see errors during the configuration of Smart API Manager. Health Diagnostics will report an Unauthorized (401) error when validating the Integrated Windows Authentication identity provider.

How to install Windows Authentication for your IIS web server

  1. In Server Manager dashboard, click Add roles and features to run the wizard.

  2. Click Next until you reach the Server Roles step.

  3. Expand the Web Server (IIS), Web Server, Security hierarchy.

  4. Select Windows Authentication to install the role.

  5. Continue stepping through the wizard to complete the Install step.
