Allows you to select the hierarchy you want to use. Hierarchies determine the item types allowed at each level in the plant structure.

Hierarchy — Specifies the hierarchy that you want to use for the plant. All currently defined hierarchies appear in this list.

Hierarchy definition — Displays the plant breakdown structure items in the currently selected hierarchy.

  • If you want to use a custom hierarchy, use the New Hierarchy Template dialog box to create it before using the New Plant Structure wizard to create a plant structure. Hierarchies cannot be modified during plant structure creation.

  • If you plan to register this plant for integration, the plant hierarchy must contain a minimum of three levels. These levels do not have to match the SmartPlant Foundation hierarchy. For more information, see Using Custom Hierarchies in an Integrated Environment.

  • Additionally, the names of hierarchy items must not be changed after they are created and the hierarchy structure must not be modified after you create the project that you are registering. For more information, see Hierarchy Templates Root (see ) in the SmartPlant Engineering Manager Help.

  • You cannot create a plant structure with a hierarchy containing only one level.
