The StructStairs.xls workbook defines the stairs that you want to add to your catalog and hence to your model. The stairs that are delivered with the workbook are samples. Do not directly edit the sample stairs to create your custom stairs. We recommend that you copy the sample sheet to a new sheet, and then edit the copy.

When creating your stairs, there are custom attributes and required attributes. You can add your custom attributes using the Custom Interfaces Sheet sheet (described in the Reference Data Guide.) For your custom attributes, you can have the software provide catalog lookups in the graphical interface for an attribute value. For example, if you have a custom attribute for the material, add the suffix "_SPSMaterial" to the attribute name, for example, Material_SPSMaterial. When the user selects the attribute in the stair properties dialog box, the software displays the materials defined in the catalog for the user to select from. Four lookups are supported; replace XXX below with your attribute name:

  • XXX_SPSSectionName - Displays section names available in the catalog.

  • XXX_SPSSectionRefStandard - Displays section reference standards available in the catalog.

  • XXX_SPSMaterial - Displays materials available in the catalog.

  • XXX_SPSGrade - Displays material grades available in the catalog.

The required attributes used by IJSPSCommonStairLadderProperties interface must be defined for each stair part class that you define in the workbook. The required attributes are:

Actual Step Pitch

Enter the maximum allowable vertical distance between the stair treads. The actual distance is calculated by the software using the vertical distance between the top edge and the bottom plane and the stair angle. The actual distance is displayed in Actual Step Pitch.

Angle

Enter the angle of inclination between the selected bottom plane and the stair stringers.

Custom Prog ID

Enter the registered program identifier.

Envelope Height

Enter the height dimension for the stair operation envelope. This dimension is used by interference checking to check for head clearance above the stair.

Handrail Post Pitch

Enter the distance between the handrail posts.

Handrail Section Angle

Enter the angle, in degrees or radians, by which the handrail cross-section rotates about the member axis. The zero-degree position is either the global Z-axis or the global X-axis, depending on the member orientation.

Handrail Section Cardinal Point

Displays the relative position of the structural cross-section to the member placement line. Nine cardinal positions (1 -9) are available. The location of cardinal points 10 (center-of-gravity) and 15 (shear center) depend on the section shape. The local z-axis of the member and the center-of-gravity point of the section define cardinal points 11 and 14. The local y-axis of the member and the center-of-gravity point of the section define cardinal points 12 and 13. Cardinal points 10 through 15 are unavailable for designed members or cans.

Handrail Section Name

Enter the cross section name for the hand rail.

Handrail Section Reference Standard

Enter the section library name that contains the handrail section.

Height

Enter the overall projected vertical height, including custom extensions or gaps on the top or bottom. This is the default distance. when placing the stair, the software calculates the actual distance.

Is Assembly

This value is not currently used by the software. Set to 0.

Is System

This value is not currently used by the software. Set to 0.

Justification

Specifies how the object aligns with the connecting structural objects.

Center

Left

Right

Length

Enter the overall physical length for reporting purposes. This is the default distance. The actual distance is calculated by the ISPSStairSymbolServices component when placing the stair.

Number of Midrails

Enter the number of midrails for the stair handrailing.

Part Number

Enter a part number for the stair. The part number must be unique across the entire catalog.

Part Description

Enter a description for the stair.

Platform Thickness

Enter the thickness dimension for the stair platform.

Post Height

Enter the height dimension for the hand rail post.

Primary Grade

Enter the primary material grade for the stairs.

Primary Material

Enter the primary material for the stairs.

Side

Enter 1 or 0. This attribute is a toggle for the placement side relative to the top support. The Side button on the ribbon bar toggles the value so the default setting is inconsequential.

Side Frame Section Angle

Enter the angle, in degrees or radians, by which the side frame cross-section rotates about the member axis. The zero-degree position is either the global Z-axis or the global X-axis, depending on the member orientation.

Side Frame Section Cardinal Point

Displays the relative position of the structural cross-section to the member placement line. Nine cardinal positions (1 -9) are available. The location of cardinal points 10 (center-of-gravity) and 15 (shear center) depend on the section shape. The local z-axis of the member and the center-of-gravity point of the section define cardinal points 11 and 14. The local y-axis of the member and the center-of-gravity point of the section define cardinal points 12 and 13. Cardinal points 10 through 15 are unavailable for designed members or cans.

Symbol Definition

Enter the name of the macro to use to construct the ladder. If you do not enter a value, the software uses the symbol definition at the top of the sheet under Definition.

Symbol Icon

Enter the graphic to use when displaying a preview of the part in the Catalog task. If you do not enter a value , the software uses the symbol icon defined at the top of the sheet under Definition.

Top Landing Length

Enter the length dimension of the top landing for the stairs. Smart 3D only uses this dimension if With Top Landing is set to True.

Width

Enter the width of the stair treads. This dimension does not include the width of the stringers and therefore is less than the overall width of the stairs.

With Top Landing

Indicates whether the stair includes a top landing.
