SAP Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2017 must be installed.

  1. Right-click the Project node in your Solution Explorer then click Add > New Item to open the Add New Item dialog box.

  2. Select the Reporting node from the Categories pane and select Crystal Report from the Templates pane. Type a name in the Name box and click Add.

    Use the same name as the Report Template Name for the Custom Report object.

  3. On the Crystal Reports Gallery dialog box in the Create a New Crystal Report Document section, select As a Blank Report. Click OK to open the new Crystal Report Template and add five new references to support SAP Crystal Reports.

  4. In the Field Explorer window, right-click the Database Fields node and then click Database Expert to open the Database Expert dialog box.

  5. Expand the Create New Connection node and then expand the Database Files node.

  6. On the Open dialog box, browse to and select your XML document. Click Open. The file is added to the Database Expert dialog box.

  7. Select your file on the Data Expert dialog box. Click the Move button to move your file from the Available Data Source section to the Selected Tables section. Click OK.

  8. Expand the Database Fields node in the Field Explorer window to verify that your data structure is outlined.

  9. Drag these fields into your report template to define the structure.

  10. When you are completed, click Build > Rebuild Solution. Your Custom Report Library is placed in the bin\debug folder under your project.

  11. Copy your Custom Report Library DLL (ReportExample.dll in the image above) to the ReportLibraries folder.
