Designates the multiplication factor applied to the computed values of the axial and bending allowable stresses. Typically, this value is 1.0. However, in extreme events, such as earthquakes and 100-year storms, the AISC code permits the allowable stresses to be increased by a factor. Usually, a 1/3 increase is applied to the computed allowables, making the allowable stress increase factor equal to 1.33. For more details see the AISC code, section 1.5.6.
