The following fields are necessary for each work instruction to be presented clearly and effectively. These fields should be present in all work instruction form designs.

Work Description - Displays the description of the work instruction.

Area - Displays the area information of the work instruction.

Assigned Group - Displays the user group that should complete the work.

Status - Displays the state of the work instruction.

Due - Displays Not Due before the Scheduled Start Time, displays Due after the Scheduled Start Time, and displays Overdue after the Scheduled Finish Time. By default, only Due and Overdue entries are displayed in the Work Instructions list view.

Scheduled Start Time - Determines when the work instruction is due for completion.

Category - Displays the category of the work instruction.
If you remove the Scheduled Finish Time field, the state of a work instruction cannot be marked as Overdue. The Scheduled Finish Time field can be removed, but the Overdue functionality will be lost.
The other fields can be removed without causing any complications.

To add fields, see Add fields
To add new fields to the Default Form:

Create a new row where you want the field (right-click a row number and select Insert New Row Above… or Insert New Row Below…).

Merge
the cells together as required.

Enter a label for your field (select a cell, type the label, and press ENTER).

Select an input type from the Type option list on the Properties tab.
The Sub-Task Description section is a repeating section which allows multiple tasks to be added. Additional fields are not required for multiple tasks to be added.
If you want the new field to be displayed on the j5 Mobile application:

Right-click the new input field and select Add to Mobile Layout. This adds the label and input field to the bottom on the mobile layout.

Select Mobile Layout
in the toolbar. This opens the Mobile Layout window.

Drag the new field into the position you want it.

To increase the size of a cell, merge
the surrounding cells into the cell.
Cells can be resized by unmerging and then merging a different collection of cells.

A predefined message list has been linked to the Work Description box on the Properties tab.
To link a predefined message list to the Comment box:

Select the <Comment> cell.

Select the predefined message list you want from the Predefined Message List option list on the Properties tab.

Replace default fields
If some of the default fields are removed and you want to replace them with their preconfigured settings, see Place default fields

Right-click a cell, and select Place Default Field. The default field options appear in a neighboring shortcut menu.
The work instruction Place Default Field shortcut menu option is available in the Work Instructions scope only.

Select the default field you want. The field appears in the selected cell.
The recommended default input fields are marked with an asterisk [*]. These fields help for a controlled workflow and display key information about the work instruction.
Each default input field has its default configuration settings attached:

ActualFinishTime provides a read-only Date & Time box. This box automatically displays the finish time when you select Done in the Complete Work box.

ActualStartTime provides a read-only Date & Time box. This box automatically displays the start time when you select Done in the Start Work box.

Area [*] provides a Hierarchy Select input type connected to the Operational Areas data store.

Assigned Group provides a Choice input type connected to the User Rights Groups data store.

Attachments provides an Attachment input type.

Category [*] provides a Hierarchy Select input type connected to the Work Category configuration table.

Comment provides a Rich Text input type.

CreatedBy displays the name of the work planner (read-only).
-
CreatedByGroup displays the rights group of the work planner (read-only).

Description [*] provides a Rich Text input type linked to the default work instructions predefined message list.

Due [*] displays whether the work instruction is Not Due, Due, or Overdue (read-only). The Due status is calculated using the configured Scheduled Start Time and Scheduled Finish Time.

ManualStatus [*] provides a Choice input type with the status options preconfigured.

PlanAttachments provides an Attachment input type.

ScheduledFinishTime provides a user-entered Date & Time input type.

ScheduledStartTime [*] provides a user-entered Date & Time input type.

Status calculates the status for the list view in the Work Instructions module when the ManualStatus isn’t used.

Merge cells together as required for larger input fields. A Rich Text input box requires a large merged cell for optimal display.

Give each input field a label.
