Standard Database for Smart Reference Data Version
12.4

SDB has added the Symbol Library Manager to add and manage all S3D symbols. SDB contains S3D Piping Data referring to Dot Net Symbol DLLs, ProgIDs, and Symbol Icons only.

Managing Tool Versions

In the Administration > Document Management > Tools Version Management screen, users can create an effective version that is the main version of an interface (example: Smart 3D 2014-2019) and associate multiple product versions to it. The effective version is used while associating product versions to a document in the Document Manager screen.

For example, if Smart 3D is an interface with the effective version Smart 3D 2014, users can group the product versions Smart 3D 2014, Smart 3D 2014 R1, Smart 3D 2016, Smart 3D 2018 and Smart 3D 2019 and associate them to the effective version; Smart 3D 2014-2019.

Document Manager

In the Administration > Document Management > Document screen, users can add documents (Symbol DLLs) using the drag and drop feature or Browse. All the documents should be set with effective product version.

To upload the documents/files:

  1. Go to Administration > Document Management, and click Documents.

  2. Click Edit grid and add a new row and drop the required symbol DLL onto the new row. Assign the effective S3D version from the LOV and save the same.

Managing Symbol Library

In Smart Reference Data Plus, a symbol library is a set of symbols grouped together for easy access and maintenance. Users can also organize the symbols in hierarchical order as required.

To add a symbol library:

  1. Go to Administration > Document Management, and click Symbol Library Management.

  2. Click Edit grid and add a new Row.

  3. In the Symbol Library Name cell, type a name for the symbol library.

  4. In the Symbol Library Type cell, click Selection List (LOV) and select a type.

Symbol Library Version will be required when the Symbol Library type is set to S3D 3DSymbol. Symbol Version shall be captured from symbol DLLs only.

  5. In the Symbol Library Short Description cell, type a short description for the symbol library.

  6. In the Symbol Library Description cell, type a long description for the symbol library.

Optionally, click Selection List (LOV) in the Parent Symbol Library Name cell and select a parent symbol library name. Associate a parent symbol library name only if users need to create a hierarchy for the symbol library and this can be invoked by pressing Shift+Ctrl+F9.

Symbol Manager

The Symbol Manager contains PDB information applicable for each symbol DLL and its corresponding Symbol previews. Steps to add symbols to SDB are as below:

  1. Go to Administration > Document Management and click Documents.

  2. Documents Grid in read-only mode, right-click on a row and click Symbol Manager to navigate to next screen.

  3. The user must select a PDB value for respective symbol Prog IDs in Symbol Codes Grid of Symbol Manager window.

  4. In the PDB Documents grid, click Edit grid, and add a row.

  5. Click the Data Seq cell, and then click Selection list (LOV) to select a part data basis and save the same.

  6. User can also add files to the PDB Document View grid using drag and drop from Windows Explorer or can upload files or copy and paste files into the PDB Document View grid.

    • To upload a file, right-click an existing row and select upload on the shortcut menu.

    • To copy and paste a file, copy a file in Windows Explorer, and then right-click a row and select Paste Upload on the shortcut menu.

Associating Part data basis to Commodity Part/Commodity Code or Ident level

SDB Commodity Codes are mapped with .NET based symbols using the Symbol Library Manager. Below is the list of Piping Commodity Codes with Symbol association.

  • All Piping Commodity Codes which are referred to by Piping Specifications.

  • All Piping Flange Group Commodity Codes which are referred by US standards.

  • All Piping Commodity Codes which are referred by Non-US standards.

Follow these steps to associate a Part Data Basis to a Commodity Part/Commodity Code or Ident level:

  1. Go to SRD > Component Manager > Commodity/Ident Management.

  2. Select Commodity Group/Part/Commodity Code from the list.

  3. Double-click a group or part or commodity code in the tree view to open the grid.

  4. Users can also open the grid by selecting an item in the tree view and then click Open grid view on the tool bar.

  5. Select the document code, Symbol Library Name, Symbol Code, and Part Data Base from the LOV.
