You can customize the part specification for any of the parts comprising an assembly using the assembly workbook. Each part in the support has two columns associated, Part and Rule.

Part - Specifies the part number or the part class

Rule - Specifies the rule that selects the part number or class automatically from an associated Hanger Service Table. You can specify the Part Selection Rule to override the default catalog rule, if required.

The following use-cases are supported:

  • Use case 1: User supplies a part number or part class in the Part column.

Leave the Rule column empty. If the Rule column is populated, the software assumes that you are attempting use-case 2.

  • Use case 2: User supplies a part class in the Part column and a Part Selection Rule in the Rule column.

Allows you to provide a custom Part Selection Rule to override the default catalog rule defined in the catalog reference data.

  • Use case 3: User supplies a hanger rule in the Rule column.

Leave the Part column empty. If the Part column is populated, the software assumes that you are attempting use-case 2.

Specify a Part Selection Rule to override a default Part Selection Rule when specifying a part class in the part attribute form. A Part Selection Rule selects a part from a part class depending on the inputs such as pipe size. A support rule returns a part number for a part. Assemblies that use steel standard parts require this attribute to use the steel standard rules delivered with the SDB package. For more information about steel standard rules, see Steel Standard Rules.

A Part Selection Rule is a .NET class that inherits from a SupportPartSelectionRule or a Visual Basic 6.0 class that implements IJHgrPartSelectionRule. A Support Rule is defined on a HgrRulesClass part class.
