The 2D grids ruler displays reference or grid planes intersecting the 2D view. You can also add grid planes to the 2D view directly from the ruler, and then use the grid planes for constraints and dimensions.

Based on the plane’s normal to the 2D sketching orientation and the active coordinate system, the planes are displayed in a horizontal ruler, a vertical ruler, or both rulers, as shown below.

Planes are displayed on the ruler using the following criteria.

  • The sketching plane normal and the grid plane normal are perpendicular.

  • The grid plane normal is parallel to the X or the Y sketching axis. If it is parallel to X sketching axis, then the plane is displayed on the horizontal ruler. If it is parallel to Y sketching axis, then the plane is displayed on the vertical ruler.

  • Only one ruler is displayed if its orientation is not parallel to the sketching plane.

  • When a grid plane is added in the 3D environment, a check mark is added in the 2D environment.

  • When a grid plane is moved in the 3D environment, the corresponding check mark is moved in the 2D environment.

  • When the active coordinate system is changed, the new check marks corresponding to the relevant axis are displayed.

  • If the constraints or the dimensions are already attached to an imported grid line of the previous ruler, then this line is preserved in the 2D sketcher.
