The steps for placing a symbol vary depending on whether you are working in SmartPlant Markup Plus or SmartPlant Foundation.

Place a symbol in SmartPlant Markup Plus

  1. Click Markup > Place Symbol .

SHARED Tip This command is available only if a markup layer is currently active.

  2. Find the symbol file that contains the symbol you want to place in the markup layer. Use the Browse button to search your local and network directories.

  3. In the Available symbols list, double-click the symbol you want to place.

  4. Drag and drop the symbol where you want to place it in the markup layer.

  5. When you have finished placing symbols, click Cancel to close the Place Symbol dialog box.

Place a symbol in SmartPlant Foundation

  1. Click Markup > Place Symbol .

SHARED Tip This command is available only if a markup layer is currently active.

  2. Find the symbol file that contains the symbol you want to place in the markup layer. Use the Browse button to search your local and network directories.

  3. Double-click the symbol you want to place from the Available symbols list.

  4. Move the mouse to the location where you want to place the symbol. The symbol follows the cursor, and the Place Symbol dialog box closes.

  5. Click to place the symbol.

  • If a symbol contains a text field, the text can be edited by double-clicking in the text field.

  • To change the size of the symbol you are adding, use SHIFT and the up arrow key to increase the size or SHIFT and the down arrow key to decrease the size. Use these commands after you select your symbol but before you place it with the mouse. These commands will not work after the symbol has been placed and taken on the markup layer color.

  • To rotate the symbol you are adding, use SHIFT and the right or left arrow keys to rotate the symbol in 15-degree increments. Use these commands after you select your symbol but before you place it with the mouse. These commands will not work after the symbol has been placed and taken on the markup layer color.

  • When you place a symbol in SmartPlant Markup Plus, it retains the dimensional data that was assigned to it when it was created, and that information is used to determine the object's size in the view. For example, if you place a box that was created with an elevation of two feet, the symbol that appears in the view will have an elevation of two feet and will be drawn in the correct proportion with regard to the other items in the view.
