Introduction

SmartPlant Instrumentation 2016 upgrade implementation has been improved for users who are upgrading a large database. A large database is defined as a database containing the following tables;

  • Panel_strip_term

  • Wire

  • Wire_terminal

Where the total sum of records in these table exceeds 800,000 records. If you database has these tables and exceeds this number of records then you must use Oracle 12c 64-bit client to upgrade your database.

  • The use of the Oracle 12c 64-bit client does not dismiss the need for you to upgrade your existing Oracle client to the 32-bit Oracle 12c client. This is because SmartPlant Instrumentation only supports 32-bit. If you only install the Oracle 12C 64-bit client then you are able to upgrade your database but SmartPlant Instrumentation 2016 will not be able to work with the database.

  • When using the Windows 10 operating system, you should be aware that the OS stores a copy of the product .ini file (only if the .ini file is read only) in the following location: C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\SmartPlant\<product folder>\.ini, as well as in the SmartPlant root folder. If you need to delete the .ini file or create a new .ini file, you must delete it from both of these folders. Deleting it just from the SmartPlant folder means that login to the product is still possible using outdated information.

  • Due to security changes in Windows 10, users who require access to INIT/Backup, upgrade, import, and Administration functions, must have windows administrative privileges for this functionality to work correctly.

Attempting to upgrade a large database using the 32-bit client displays an error message telling you that your database is to large and that you should use the 64-bit client.
