The Explicit claim option can also be set for the entire system or at the user.

An Explicit claim means that the user must explicitly choose to claim the object by using a command on its shortcut menu before the user can work on the object. If both of these options are set to false, implicit claim is then in force.

When an item only exists in a plant and you try to update the object in the context of a project, the system claims the object for you and applies the update to the new representation of the object in the project. To avoid any confusion, you can choose to have the implicit claim confirmation dialog appear when the system wants to create this claim of the object you are changing. You can turn on this dialog in the user preferences.

To force a system-wide exclusive claim

  • In the system options, in the Configuration option details section, select the System explicit claim option. For more information on the system options, see Configure the system options.

This type of claim does not apply to documents.
