One of the roles of the document controller is to manage the document index. In many projects, it is necessary to reserve the document numbers before creating the document files. When the document is reserved on the index, the revision details may not be known. To support this, SmartPlant Foundation provides a mechanism for creating document masters without their revisions and versions. This is important, as in many situations, more data is needed when the document is finally created. This can be modeled on the document revision as required properties and relationships so that they have to be entered when the reserved document is activated. The document can still be created as a complete document master, revision, and version.
