To view and manage Data Capture data in the Web Client, you must first create and configure a site for Web Client, and then log on to the Web Client as a user with Datacapture administrator or Datacapture controller role privileges. For more information on how to setup and configure Web Client site, see Set up a new Web Client site.

Once you log on to the Web Client, you can:

  • View and perform tasks on documents

  • View, create, and update tags

When tags are created manually or imported from another system, the software maintains the tag's uniqueness in relation to its area in SDx or plant in SmartPlant Foundation.

  • View business object relationships

  • Create document to tag relationships

  • View, create, perform tasks on the Facility Data Warehouse documents and attach them to the workflows

  • View and terminate work packages

  • View and create assets and models

  • Generate reports

  • View and hotspot Data Capture documents such as Hexagon 2D drawings, 3D models, and PDF files.

  • Extract data from the latest document.

  • Resolve duplicate documents.

You can use the Advanced Search in the Web Client to search for specific data.

For more information on how to quickly navigate the Web Client and perform relevant tasks, see the SmartPlant Foundation Web Client Help.

View and hotspot Data Capture documents

You can view and hotspot Data Capture documents, such as Hexagon 2D drawings, 3D models, and PDFs in the Web Client.

View 3D models

  • Select a 3D model document in the Data Capture documents search results list, and click View and Markup VIEW FILE(S) on an object's Actions menu to view and hotspot the 3D WebGL viewer file (.binz) in the View and Markup pane. For more information on viewing 3D WebGL viewer files (.binz), see Visualizing your data.

    • Markup options are not available when viewing the 3D WebGL viewer files (.binz) using View and Markup.

    • The Actions menu is not available when viewing the objects in a 3D model, if the Data Capture 3D Reader Pre-Processor module processes the 3D model based on either of the following configurations:

      • Piping elements in the 3D model are processed based on the relationship table.

      • Elements in the 3D model are processed based on the parent attribute configuration.

For more information, see Add a template.

View 2D drawings

  1. Select a 2D drawing document in the Data Capture documents search results list, and click View and Markup VIEW FILE(S) on an object's Actions menu.

  2. In the Select a file to view window:

    • To view and hotspot, select the respective 2D WebGL viewer file (.vecz) to open it in the View and Markup pane. For more information on viewing 2D WebGL viewer files (.vecz), see Visualizing your data.

    • To view and markup, select the non-Hexagon file to open it in the View and Markup pane. You can access the markup tools in the View and Markup pane. For more information about the markup tools, see the viewer's Help.

The viewer's Help might refer to functionality that is not available to you.

SHARED Tip You can also click View and Markup VIEW FILE(S) to view the 3D WebGL viewer file (.binz) or the 2D WebGL viewer file (.vecz) in the View and Markup pane. For the 2D drawing, after clicking View and Markup VIEW FILE(S) , you must select the file type that you want to view in the View and Markup pane.

View PDFs

Select a document attached to a PDF file in the Data Capture documents search results list, and click View and Markup VIEW FILE(S) on an object's Actions menu to view and hotspot the PDF file in the View and Markup pane.

  • To view and navigate to any tag in the 3D WebGL viewer file (.binz) or the 2D WebGL viewer file (.vecz), do the following:

Find and click any tag in the 3D WebGL viewer file (.binz) or the 2D WebGL viewer file (.vecz) and click Actions > View Item in Drawing / Model. For more information, see View, print, mark up, and navigate files.

  • In order to view a pipe line or a pipe run highlighted in a 3D model, you must process the .mdb2 and .zvf file of the 3D model using the Data Capture 3D Reader Pre-Processor module. For more information on how to view an element in a 3D model using Web client, see View, print, mark up, and navigate files. For more information on how to pre-process the 3D model information using Data Capture, see Add a template.

  • To graphically navigate to a tag in 2D drawing and 3D models, the Web Client uses the GraphicOID property information of a tag present in the drawing representation object. The drawing representation object is created when extracting content from drawing files and 3D model files.

  • If the selected documents do not have WebGL viewer files associated with them, then you can generate the WebGL viewer files for those documents in the Web Client by selecting the respective document from the Data Capture documents search results list. Then do the following:

    • For 2D drawings - Click Actions > Files > Generate 2D WebGL Viewer Files

    • For 3D models - Click Actions > Files > Generate 3D WebGL Viewer Files
