For details of configuring the view definitions, refer to How to Configure the Reports Model.

View definitions for ad hoc reports

For the user to have access to ad hoc reports, they must be in a role that contains a message access group that is related to the view definition. Once the view definition has been defined, drag and drop the relevant message access group on to the view definition.

View definitions to control the properties grid

The view of an object presented in the properties grid is controlled by a view definition.

Create a single view on object

Create the view definition and relate it to one of the interfaces on the object's class definition. If the view definition is applicable for a number of class definitions it can be related to a general interface, otherwise related to the primary interface of the class definition.

Configure an alternative view of an object

This is usually experienced in the Data Warehouse where a single object is composed of data published by two tools or disciplines. Each publish will instantiate different interfaces so view definitions should be created from each of the most specialized interfaces published by each tool. For example, create a view definition for the process data and the instrument data and relate them to the most specialized process interface and instrument interface. When a process engineer first publishes an object, they will see only the process view definition; however, once the object is consolidated with instrument data, there are no alternative view definitions.

Control which view definitions a user sees

The control of the alternative view definition is achieved by relating an owning group to the interface to which the view definition is related. For example, the process owning view definition should be related to the process interface and the instrument owning group related to the instrument interface. Now when a process engineer logs in, they will see the process view definition; when an instrument engineer logs in, they will see the process view definition.
