  1. Select the active configuration query scope to match the configuration on which you want to generate a Merge Structure Summary with Validation.

You must set the project or lower configuration as the query scope to run the Merge Structure Summary with Validation.

  2. In the tree view, right-click the project or lower configuration and expand the grouping objects.

  3. Right-click a grouping object that you want to use for the Merge Structure Summary report, and click Merge Structure Summary with Validation.

    • When Merge Structure Summary with Validation is selected, specific validation rules are run. You can then review any conflicts or errors before the Merge Structure Summary Validation Report dialog box opens.

    • You can show the validation messages that Merge Structure Summary with Validation creates by selecting the Show any validation errors before the summary? argument on the Merge Structure Summary Method. This gives you the flexibility to run Merge Structure Summary with or without displaying validation. For more information, see Mergeable Items Summary.

    • Items with unresolved validation conflicts can be displayed in a separate list by selecting Get Conflicts. For more information on resolving conflicts, see Resolve conflicts.

    • Items that no longer belong to the merge by grouping data structure, such as a tag on the end of a relationship that has been flagged for termination, should be considered carefully before merging. They are included in the data structure so that the plant or project being merged is correctly represented. Merge by grouping structure checks for this situation and will display the tag as a moved item in a separate list by selecting Get Moved Items. For more information on a merge by grouping structure, see Configuring merge by grouping.

  4. Resolve conflicts found in the report as needed. You can also choose to ignore the results and continue.

  5. Click Show Summary to view the Merge Structure Summary Validation Report.

To view the results of a merge structure validation summary, see Viewing the mergeable items summary results.
