The SmartPlant Reports Administration module was designed to make the creation and management of reports easier. When you create or modify report definitions with this module, you are creating or modifying graph definitions and view definitions like those delivered in the SmartPlant Foundation schema. The user interface allows you to navigate the existing relationship definitions for an object graphically to create your graph definition and your view definition, which the Desktop Client or the Business Intelligence module uses to create reports.

The changes you make with this module are written directly to the applicable SmartPlant Foundation database, removing the need for you to manually edit the schema objects in the Schema Editor and load the schema changes into the database using the Schema Import Wizard or Loader. However, unlike when you make changes to the graph definitions or view definitions using the Schema Editor, this module does not write changes back to the schema file.

If you use the SmartPlant Reports Administration module to modify a delivered view definition, or a view definition previously created in a schema file using the Schema Editor, reloading the schema file that contains the view definitions could result in the loss of the changes made with the SmartPlant Reports Administration module. Carefully review the differences during the comparison stage of the Schema Import Wizard to be sure you do not revert the view definition to its previous state.

For easier reporting, SmartPlant Report Administration does not support the use of edge definitions.
