You can publish properties from the following tools to CDW:

  • Smart Electrical

  • Smart P&ID

  • PDS

  • SmartPlant Isometrics

  • Smart Instrumentation

The main improvements of publishing from the tools is as follows:

  • The ability to determine which property value goes into the CDW domain, even though the same property is published from different tools.

  • The ability to determine how the properties are displayed in SmartPlant Foundation using ViewDefs.

To understand the publish process and limitations before using CDW, the following figure describes the two scenarios:

  • Blue (Scenario1) - Publish properties from different tools into the shared domain. These properties are published with separate mapping, values, and UIDs. The properties having the same meaning are separately published to the DWshared domain.

  • Red (Scenario2) - Publish properties from different tools into the similar properties of the shared domain. This indicates a "Last in wins" concept, where the last tool that published a property gets the value in the DWShared domain.

To use a different method for publishing and retrieving, the CDW uses mapping files as PropertyDefToPropertyDef to determine which tool is the owner of the property in the CDW domain.

The following illustration describes the publish and retrieve operation in CDW.

A property can be published from more than one tool, enabling CDW to determine the owner of that property. The PropertyDefToPropertyDef mapping can be loaded with the appropriate mapping, and the consolidated task takes place only for the owner tool.

The result is that when a shared property is published from more than one tool, the property is updated into the CDW domain only if the property to which the tool belongs has published it.

ViewDefs define how the Property grids look and which properties are displayed in SmartPlant Foundation.
