In an integrated SmartPlant environment, you must publish documents containing the drawing data and relationships before the authoring tools can share the information. The publishing process involves selecting a document to publish, assigning a workflow (if necessary), and specifying a revision and version of the document if specified in SmartPlant Foundation. For most documents, the associated data is included in the publishing process.

Published documents can be accessed in multiple ways in the Desktop Client. You can view the documents currently in the queue, or query documents previously published to the queue. By accessing published documents in the load queue, you can check each document status.

Using standard integration, you can publish from an authoring tool to a SmartPlant Foundation plant. Intercompany Collaboration 2 (ICC2) is an extended capability to revise and publish documents to a project configuration in SmartPlant Foundation from a project configuration of a tool. It allows the owner operators to compare cross projects, cross disciplines within projects and manage inconsistencies across them.

For this release, you can use ICC2 to revise and publish to the plant or a project in that plant from Smart P&ID, Smart Instrumentation, Smart Electrical, or any SmartPlant Foundation authoring environment, except Excel Adapter. However, you cannot retrieve to or from a project. Support for ICC2 revise and publish capabilities in additional tools, such as Smart 3D, is planned for future releases.

When you publish a 3D model, you must enable the Scheduler and Loader to make the 3D model data document retrievable. The load, consolidate, and merge tasks must complete successfully before the 3D model document can be retrieved. For more information, see Schedulers and Queue Management.
