The following explains how UoMs are supported on several user interface components of the Desktop Client, including the Properties window (both the regular and extended mode), dialog boxes, List Edit windows, and data sheets.

Properties window

By default, the Properties window displays data in the UoM as defined by the user preference in the Default UoM box on the General tab of the Change User Preferences dialog box. This setting allows you to select a display set, typically Imperial or Metric. If a default setting is not selected, the value is displayed as it is stored in the database. View definitions also control how units of measure are displayed and changed on the Properties window.

UoM display sets are only supported when view definitions are used to configure the Properties window. The SPFInterfaceDefViewDef relationship must be added to link the proper view definitions to objects on the interface. For more information, see How to Configure the Security Model.

When used in extended mode, the Properties window is the only component on the Desktop Client interface that supports UoM sets. A switch between metric or imperial changes the SI values of properties to be converted and displayed in the relevant UoM. When a property value is entered, it is sorted and converted to the SI value, which is stored in the database. When users change the UoM in the Properties window for a property on an object, the value to display is recalculated by converting from the SI value to the new UoM value. Users can select a value from a list of UoM values when the Properties window is in extended mode.

Dialog boxes

Dialog boxes display the default UoM configured on the property until a user enters a value. Dialog boxes do not respond to UoM display sets.

List Edit window

The List Edit window displays the default UoM configured on the property until a user enters a value. The List Edit window does not respond to UoM display sets.

Data sheets

Data sheets display the default UoM configured on the property until a user enters a value. Data sheets do not respond to UoM display sets.

For more information, see How to Configure the Data Sheet Model.
