Problem
After setting up a new server and attempting to configure batch printing, rendition generation, or thumbnail generation, these processes fail without generating errors.
Solution
Although there may be numerous areas in the configuration that might need investigation, initial failure of these processes upon installation or initial setup is often due to the improper configuration of a temporary folder where these processes need to write and reference files.
First, confirm that the following site properties have been set:

FileServerTempDirectory

AppServerTempDirectory
If these properties are undefined, the software will use the server's default system temporary folder location, as defined in the environment variable %TEMP%, for internal operations.
If your implementation requires these properties to be left undefined, then you must grant special access permissions to the SPFUsers group for the remote service application pool's temporary folder, defined by the %TEMP% environment variable, with Modify rights enabled.
By default, the folder is located at: C:\Users\SPFRemoteServices\AppData\Local\Temp.
