The Database Monitoring is a group of screens and their use is as follows:

  • Manage database sessions - to monitor active database sessions.

  • View scheduled jobs - to check the status of the scheduled batch jobs.

  • View job status - to check the status of jobs started from Smart Materials such as OMI, MTO, Forecast Run, and Reservation Run

  • View audit trail - to track and report changes made to Smart Materials users data such as creating a user, security changes for product groups or projects, user privilege changes, and user activation or deactivation.

Manage database sessions

The Database Sessions screen has multiple uses such as:

  • to identify the database processes responsible and kill sessions, in case a user reports that a session is hanging

  • for the administrator to identify if someone else is working with the same screen, when a user encounters data access or locking conflicts

  • for the administrator to notify all the connected users to log out, in case the database must be shut down.

You can select a display option to filter the displayed sessions. The following display options are available:

  • All Sessions - (default) All database sessions irrespective of status appear

  • Active Sessions - Only the active sessions appear

  • Idle Sessions - Only inactive or timed-out sessions appear

  • Active BIR Sessions - Only Smart Materials Web (formerly BIR) sessions with validity time less than the SYSDATE appear.

View scheduled jobs

You can view the status of scheduled batch jobs in the Scheduled Jobs screen.

To view the log file of a job, click a job code, and then click Mail Log File.

View job status

Job Status screen provides status of jobs, such as MTO (Material Take Off), FR (Forecast Run), RR (Reservation Run), and OMI, that are started from Smart Materials. You can view information such as percentage of job processed, start time, job duration, status and so on. The software automatically refreshes (every 1 minute) the status of the job data that are still running.

View audit trail

You can track and report changes made to Smart Materials users. You can activate or deactivate the audit trail feature using the DBA setting AUDIT_ENABLE. AUDIT_ENABLE with the following values:

  • Y - Specifies audit is enabled

  • N - (default) Specifies audit is disabled.

When audit is activated, various events are captured and stored in the audit trail table. All the events that are performed are captured in a trace file and the trace file uses the prefix AUDIT_.

You can track the following changes:

  • User creation

  • Changes in user security for product groups or projects

  • Changes in user privileges

  • User activation/deactivation.
